What our customers say

Point-of-care ultrasound systems play an important role in the treatment of complicated medical cases at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford, as consultant intensivist and anaesthetist Dr Justin Kirk-Bayley explained.

The Royal Surrey County Hospital is a 527- bed general hospital and a specialist tertiary centre for cancer, oral and maxillofacial surgery and pathology. As a major cancer centre, the hospital treats some very difficult and complicated patients, and so has a larger than average 28-bed intensive care unit (ICU). The hospital is also a national leader for enhanced recovery after surgery, enabling more cancer surgery to be performed as patients spend less time in the ICU. Point-of-care ultrasound plays an important role across departments and in a range of procedures, and the hospital has invested in a number of SonoSite instruments – including M-Turbo®, Edge®, S-Nerve™ and XPorte ® systems – across various departments.

St. Mary's Mission Hospital, Langata in Nairobi Kenya.

A young female patient with mild pain in her lower right abdomen was referred to James T. Githeko, MBchB for a portable ultrasound scan. The scan revealed an un-ruptured ectopic pregnancy in her right fallopian tube. The patient was immediately referred to theater for surgery. This ultrasound scan saved her life.

Yanick Beaulieu, MD, discusses the use of portable ultrasound at the bedside in the Critical Care department and the impact it can have on patient care. We also hear from one patient whose life was changed because Dr. Beaulieu had access to bedside ultrsound and was able to diagnose a life-threatening condition.

SonoSite portable ultrasound systems are being used in the NFL and the NBA in addition to college sports programs and a number of Sports Medicine practices around the world. Portable ultrasound systems give Sports Medicine professionals access to soft tissue imaging to help diagnose or monitor injuries in real time, in nearly any setting.

As several pro cycling teams prepare for the Tour of California, we speak with the team doctor for Team Radio Shack, Dirk Tenner, MD, about his use of our hand-carried ultrasound machines. Watch as we follow Dr. Tenner and the team on a mountain ride and a quick portable ultrasound scan in one of the cyclist's hotel room before the race.
