About FUJIFILM VisualSonics
FUJIFILM VisualSonics, a wholly owned subsidiary of FUJIFILM Sonosite, designs and manufactures Ultra High Frequency ultrasound imaging systems, for both research and clinical use.
FUJIFILM VisualSonics specifically focuses on Ultra High Frequency (UHF) ultrasound machines. For the first 3cm of a scanned body, UHF ultrasound provides images at much higher resolutions—as fine as 30μm—than other imaging systems currently available.
VisualSonics originally introduced its UHF ultrasound technology for use in preclinical research, specifically in small animal models of human disease (e.g. mice or rat models). With UHF ultrasound, researchers can study live animals subjects in real-time, longitudinally, with ill no side effects.
The Vevo MD
In early 2016, FUJIFILM VisualSonics launched Vevo MD, a new Ultra High Frequency ultrasound system for clinical use. Early adopters are finding exciting uses for this system in neonatology, pediatrics, vascular, small parts, MSK, and dermatology.
Company History
FUJIFILM VisualSonics was founded in 1999 by Dr. Stuart Foster, a medical physicist and senior scientist at Sunnybrook Research Institute in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Foster began working in UHF development in 1983.
In June 2010, VisualSonics was acquired by Sonosite, Inc. (based in Bothell, WA, USA), a producer of market-leading portable ultrasound equipment. Sonosite was subsequently acquired by FUJIFILM Holdings.
