and today we have an exciting presentation
and product demonstration of the all new Sauna site px.

It is my pleasure to introduce our speakers for today.
Audra Upton is the director
of the clinical applications team
with over 13 years experience with Fujifilm Cyte.
She graduated from the University of Oklahoma
with a degree in ultrasound
and is a registered cardiac vascular sonographer.
Audra and her team remained customer focused
and are specialized in providing top level point
of care ultrasound education.
Next we have Craig Chamberlain, director
of Experience Design.
Craig has been with Fuji Filt Cyte
for nine years leading the experience design team.
This team has the responsibility
for gathering user insights, developing innovative solutions
to user pain points, and designing the physical
and digital interactions our users have with cyte products.
Prior to Cyte, Greg was president of Carbon Design Group
for seven years where he shepherded carbon's transformation
from a design services company to one
of the nation's premier full service product
development consultancies.
That shift led to a significant growth in revenue influence
and recognition by the international design community,
sweeping the idea Gold Awards for medical products in 2009.
More recently, the experience design team was recognized
with a silver IDEA award for the Saana site S two in 2016.
It's my great pleasure to welcome Craig
who will get us started today.

- Thank you, Lisa. As Lisa said,
my name's Craig Chamberlain.
I'm happy to be here to just take you through
what went into the Sono site px
and then Audra is going to demo how this thing works and
and what it's going to do for you.
Sono site has a rich history
of develop delivering innovative solutions
to our customers needs.
With the Sono site px, we are launching the first
of our next generation of point-of-care systems.
This product is a new platform built from the ground up
to deliver innovative solutions.
It incorporates new technologies
and new features to empower our users to accomplish more.
The Sono site PX was born from real world clinician needs
and it delivers solutions
to overcome real workflow challenges.
As Lisa mentioned, my team has the responsibility
for the user needs research that definition research
and the physical and digital design of our of our products.
So we take that research, we synthesize it into concepts
and we bring those concepts to reality.
We began with a systematic approach to observe, immerse,
and engage with our customers in their daily
healthcare lives.
The team traveled to sites all over the world to
and spent hundreds of hours with individual clinicians
and group and C clinic groups to observe
and understand their workflow.
We brought back more than 400 data points and that
and these data points laid the foundation
for the product development process.
We grouped these data points into three broad,
high level user needs, quicker answers.
Our users need quicker answers.
We need to know our user's goals
and give them the answer they're looking for.
Anticipate that we need to adapt to environments.
We need to provide solutions
that fit in our clinician's environment instead
of forcing our clinicians to adapt to our solution
and we need to provide everything they need at the point
of care and we need to do it for more users.
We need our to make our systems accessible
to both novice users who are just gaining an understanding
of ultrasound and expert users who are wanting
to do more with ultrasound.
So basically more users want to do more for their patients
to improve outcomes.
Meeting these three high level needs is why we developed the
Sono site px.
We designed every aspect of this system
to provide innovative solutions to customers in the point
of care clinical settings that they face every day.
Its purpose is to assist our customers to IMP
in improving patient outcomes
by providing diagnostic confidence.
Cyte PX supports many different use models within the
hospital and use office environments.
Throughout the development process.
We strove to improve access to provide our clinicians
with confidence all the while keeping things
as simple as possible.
We accomplished this by making the Sono site PX adaptable
to the many environments
that our clinicians provide care in.
By delivering amazing image quality
and by delivering workflow efficiency for every clinician.
The Sono side PX addresses the three key needs
of our clinic, of our clinicians through its adaptability,
image clarity and workflow efficiency.
Let me go into image clarity for just a moment
because we understand image clarity isn't a specification,
it's an enabling transformation.
The Sono site PX delivers the most advanced image clarity we
have ever offered.
It delivers new proprietary speckle reduction technology,
improved color performance,
and a new family of transducers with new technology
that you're going to absolutely love.
I want to focus or spotlight a couple of those transducers.
Audra's gonna go into demonstrate these in a few minutes.
Our L 19 five is the highest frequency transducer sono side
has ever produced.
It provides incredible near field resolution.
It offers a minimum scan depth of just one centimeter.
It's 20 millimeter footprint makes it ideal
for any superficial scanning, including vascular access,
pediatrics, and lots of MSK applications.
The L 12 three is a, is a workhorse.
It its versatile performance replaces both the legacy HFL
38 and the L 38 transducers providing flexibility
for expanded use cases with one transducer.
Its wide frequency range
and minimum maximum depth of nine.
Imaging depth of nine centimeters means it's capable of
of exams on larger patients
and imaging deeper structures while maintaining
that near near field clarity.
The L 12 three provides the flexibility
for expanded use cases with a single transducer solution,
but it's not just the linear transducers that have improved
with the Sono Cyte px, you'll be able
to effectively assess cardiac function
with optimal frame rates, improved performance
and enhance color map.
You'll be able to to better visualize landmarks when
with when precision
and accuracy is paramount during complex blocks
and in MSK you'll be able
to use the high frequency transducers
to see anatomy details accurately in small joints
to identify inflammation.
And we recognize that imaging is only part
of the overall solution that we
as socy need to provide to you.
The socy PX delivers the connectivity our users need
wherever they are in the hospital
and phy on the physical stand.
We've provided four transducer holders with wait for it,
no cups, no transducer cups.
I know if the mics were on,
I'd hear cheering from a, from a lot of you.
We got rid of the cups
and we've designed the new stand to provide a spot
for everything gel.
We have a spot for both bottles and packets.
We have a spot for wipes, we have a storage bin
for everything else that you need to take along with you.
And we have a lockable drawer when you need
to keep things secure
and we've dressed one of our users' biggest frustrations.
Audra's gonna go into this as well, running over the cables.
Our new cable management solution keeps the transducers ca
transducer cables safely away from the stand wheels.
So that's all that went into the Sono site px.
Now we're gonna see it in action.
It's my pleasure to introduce Audra Upton, our director
of clinical applications.
- Thank you so much Craig. As Craig said, my name is Audra.
I am the director
for the clinical applications team for saana site.
It's my team that we're the ones who come out
and provide education for you within your facilities.
And just so you know, we do have a solution for everyone,
whether that's coming in and doing it in person
or whether that is doing something virtually.
We really have expanded our capabilities to be able
to get education when you need it.
So let's first talk about the educational offerings
that we actually have on the Sauna Site PX system itself.
Now, if you're familiar with our other products,
the Sauna Site export, it was actually our first system
that included onboard training and education
and we learned a lot from that system, just
how customers use the videos
and what their expectations were.
And based on their feedback, we made some improvements
to the education on Asana site px.
So first of all, you now have the ability
to do scan along capability,
which has frame in frame viewing that allows both
for image optimization so you can scan along real time
as you're watching the educational video on the system.
There's new video controls which allow you
to pause the video, rewind
or fast forward in case you miss something,
the user can change the language on the fly.
So what that means is even if you have your system
and your interface is an English interface,
you can change the scan along video tutorials
to play in other languages.
And then lastly, not only do we have
specialty specific educational videos,
but we now offer training videos that are specific
to the cyte px.
So nine specific videos
that talk about just the functionality of the system,
how you perform certain functions.
In addition to onboard education on the system, I do want
to point out that we have an online platform called the Cyte
Institute, and it is really an amazing educational resource
that's included in the purchase
of any cyte ultrasound system.
Within that, you will find point-of-care ultrasound courses
that include webinars, 3D videos,
case studies built-in testing.
The list goes on, all you need
to register is the serial number
of your socy ultrasound machine.
And it really does take a deeper dive into magical
specialties, different trending topics within
those specialties.
And the beauty of the institute in of the institute is
that it's self-paced learning.
You can access it from any web enabled device.
And again, like I said, it's, IT is specialty specific.
Okay, so before we jump into the live demonstration,
I just kind of wanna set up the expectation
for this live portion today we are going
to be looking at the Sauna site px from a wide
overview perspective.
This behind the scanned webinar series is going
to be every Wednesday through October 7th.
And so some of the topics we are going
to be taking a much deeper dive in
subsequent webinar series.
So things like really diving deeper into everything on the
PX that speaks to workflow efficiency
or the image clarity portion.
So just keep that in mind as we go through today
that we will have other webinars
that take a deeper look at the system.
So let's get started.
The Sauna site p PX really was designed
to provide clinicians solutions through the adaptability
of the system, the improved workflow efficiency
and our best image clarity.
So here on this image, what you're seeing is
that the interface blends both touch and physical controls
and this gives the clinician quick access
and it's a very intuitive functionality
of the system itself.
When you take a look a closer look at the physical controls
down at the bottom of the of the interface,
you will actually notice that they are uniquely shaped.
This was done on purpose
and this really is meant to allow a clinician to be able
to adjust some of the most commonly used controls like gain
and depth without ever having to take a look at the system.
You're changing it based on the feel of the button.
This really does allow you
to remain completely focused on the patient
and on the clinical imaging monitor.
Now this next feature is probably one of my most favorite
and that's the adaptability of the system itself.
So the system has the ability to transition from a vertical
to a horizontal working environment based on just
that your environment.
So with a simple push
or pull of that handle, it can go from horizontal
to almost completely vertical.
Craig mentioned it, we made some really smart changes
to the design of the stand, one
of those being cable management.
So even in its lowest position,
you cannot run over our transducer cables.
That center portion
that you're seeing on the screen right now,
that's the cable management system
that really does push those transducer cables back
and out of the way.
But don't worry, if you are scanning
and you find that you need that extra length of transducer
to reach your patient, they easily release from
that cable management system allowing you to to get
that extra length of transducer cable.
You see here that dedicated wipes holder, ensuring
that you always have the proper cleaning wipes
for infection controls purposes
and then obviously also having a dedicated place
for your gel.
And then lastly, as we move into the live demonstration
portion, I do believe you're gonna see
for yourself just the advancements
that we've made in the image clarity on the sauna site px.
So what you're going to see first is the
clinical display, the interface,
and as I pointed out,
it really is a hybrid system merging both the touch panel,
which is the upper portion of the interface
and the tactile keys which are down below.
First I'd like to focus on the touch panel itself.
So when you, when you turn on a saana site, PX system,
this is how you're going to be greeted.
It's gonna ask you how would you like to start?
Do you wanna go right into scanning?
Would you like to enter patient information?
Do you wanna select a transducer
or do you wanna go to the those learn tutorials?
Right now we're actually just gonna hop into the scan screen
and what I'd like to point out is even if you go into the
scan screen, all is not lost.
If you still want to access patient information, you can do
that from this screen as well.
You can still go in and choose your transducer,
you still have access to the learn capability right here on
the transducer page.
Going back to that transducer page, you'll see
that we have three transducers plugged in at one time
and currently we have the L 19 five transducer activated.
And underneath each transducer you can see the corresponding
exam types that correspond with that specific transducer.
Right now we're going to select nerve.
You can either double tap on nerve or you can tap it
and then hit scan in the lower right hand corner
that will take you to your scanning interface.
So when I talk about the improvements we've made in workflow
efficiencies, this this specific portion
is high on my list.
And what I mean by that is we have streamlined the user
interface to bring
to surface the most commonly used parameters based
on transducer and exam type.
So right now we have the L 19 five on the nerve exam type.
If I were to switch it over to the lung exam type,
the interface would completely adapt
and adjust for lung imaging.
For now, we're gonna keep it on nerve imaging.
So like I said, this is gonna adapt not just
by transducer and exam type,
but also by the different imaging modes that we
will be scanning here in just a little bit.
Looking down at the tactile keys down at the bottom
that I pointed out in that previous video,
these are those parameters
that are consistent no matter the transducer,
no matter the exam type,
these are the most commonly used parameters
that you're gonna scan more regularly.
So things like your gain, your depth if you need
to freeze your image and take a picture
and then accessing those different imaging modes.
So just to show you how that touch panel adapts,
I'm actually gonna go ahead and activate color
and you will notice
that automatically the color menu is surfaced bringing in
the most common parameters that are
adjusted when you have color activated.
If at any point you are on a screen
and you just want back to your normal 2D imaging,
you can hit 2D on those tactile keys down in the lower
right hand corner.
Okay, so let's get to some scanning.
What you're now going to see is an image,
and you'll see we're scanning again with that 19 five.
We're changing the depth to the one centimeter depth.
Now I fully realize the image on the lower left,
you cannot see the individual buttons per se,
but really what I want to show you is that
our engineers have made it,
when you select a certain exam type,
the parameters are really optimized for that exam type,
giving you what we consider a plugable experie.
And what I mean by that is you should be able
to choose your exam type, put gel on your transducer
and plunk it on the patient and make little manipulation.
And that really does speak to the ease of use of our system.
Now with that said, I've always believed
Sauna Cytes have the easiest to use systems on the market
and I didn't think that we could make it any easier
until I was introduced with the sauna site px.
And sure enough, we really have made it so much easier
but not at the expense of our advanced users.
So if you want some of those advanced features
and capabilities, we have those for
for experienced users as well.
So one thing that I do want to point out as a new change,
I'm gonna switch back over to this control panel just
briefly to point out the TGC.
So you'll notice now on the touch panel TGC has
been activated.
When I switch back to my image, you'll notice
that TGC line is also displayed on your clinical monitor.
What this allows, so TGC is time gain compensation.
This allows the user to really pinpoint
or focus the gain in a way like we've never been able
to do before.
So it does allow for pinpoint precision
within the image itself.
So if we wanted to highlight more of the far field
of the image, then I would simply click
and drag that that point down further in my image
and I would move it to the right to make it brighter.
If I wanted to make it darker, I would move it to the left.
If that's more than what you would ever want
to do on an ultrasound system, don't worry
because on the tactile keys we still have
that auto gain feature which allows you to hit auto
and then the system optimizes the gain based on
that patient, based on the specific area
that you that you are scanning.
So on this image, I just wanna point out some things.
Again, we've really just changed the the depth.
We've demonstrated some functionality with the gain,
but in this one image we have veins.
So if I do a quick compression,
you'll see those veins winking at us.
You also see that artery pulsate underneath the compression.
And then we have a nerve just to the right of
that vascular bundle.
We know it's a nerve because nerves appear
that the nerve sheets tends to be brighter white.
The fales of that nerve tend to be a little bit darker
and nerves are often re referred to as either a cluster
of grape or chocolate chip appearance.
And we see that, we see all of those structures
with this one transducer without really having
to do any major manipulation of the image.
And that again, just speaks to the quality
of our transducers, the wide range that we're able to scan
with each transducer and
and look at different pieces of anatomy in the body.
Okay, so something else that I wanted to point out.
Let's say that you got the image that you wanted
and now you're ready to do your procedure,
whether it's a vascular access procedure
or a nerve block.
And you go back and you're looking at the system
and you look at the control panel
and maybe you see an option
and you just don't know what that button does.
Now I know that every
department, I always say
that every department has at least one button pusher
where they don't really know what a button does,
they just push it to see what will happen.
We hopefully have simplified this for you
and that is if you take a look at each
of these buttons in the upper right hand corner,
there's a little eye and that is an information icon.
So if I tap on that eye
and I wanna know, well what is this procedure mode button,
we will actually tell you what each button does
and why you would use it.
So for instance, the procedure mode button,
turning on this controlled disabled sleep mode,
automatic power off
and notifications, preventing the system from
interrupting a procedure.
So again, this just speaks to being able to walk up
to a mach to the machine
and with confidence, know that you can use the machine
and have the parameters
and adjust those parameters successfully.
Now something else I want to point out,
we're actually gonna go ahead
and switch from the L 19 five transducer
to the phased transducer.
So you'll notice one, one additional improvement
that we've made is we've expanded our use cases for some
of our transducers.
We've added lung to additional transducers.
We have added focused cardiac
and we have added early ob.
So let's fo we're gonna,
we're gonna go into the focused cardiac for now.
This setting is for really for clinicians
that are using ultrasound
to gather targeted cardiac information, you'll notice
that the calculations available here in a moment are
directed more towards essential cardiac function
to determine overall patient wellbeing.
Whereas maybe the full cardiac exam type is really
used to investigate specific cardiac conditions.
So things like diastal.
So if you're an ICU physician
and you want to evaluate a PA patient from the perspective
of diastal, we actually have a specific calc package just
over the measurements that will evaluate a patient for
that specific condition.
So right now we're in focused cardiac,
we've accessed the calc package by hitting calcs on the
tactile keys.
And you can see it takes us into a very simplified calc
package that tells me if I wanna evaluate left heart,
I would go into left heart
or maybe I wanna look at assisted cardiac output
or volume status.
So we did simplify that,
really putting it at your fingertips of exactly what it was
that you were, you know, potentially looking for
and looking to to achieve.
And then lastly, I just wanna show,
I wanna point out those learn videos
that we, that we talked about.
So going into learn,
you can see we have a wide array of videos.
We actually have over 150 videos on the system
broken down by specialty right now
we're in, we're on basics.
So that's gonna be the basics of ultrasound
or how to use the system itself.
If you go into acute care, you will see those specific exams
that apply to the acute care setting.
So let's say you wanted to learn more about how
to scan a para sternal long axis view of the heart
and you click on it and it's going to be activated.
I'll stop talking here in a moment
and you should be able to hear the audio
- With the cardiac exam type is used
to perform the parasternal long axis view of the heart.
- Of course you can always mute the video, turn it down,
but this is that piece where it will walk you
through exactly which transducer to select,
where you place the transducer on the patient,
the orientation of the probe,
the anatomy that you're seeing.
In addition to these video to the video that you saw,
we actually have some now that include pathology.
So this is a great resource for, for people
who are using ultrasound, certainly any training facilities
or residency programs, this is, is really popular.
Go ahead and we'll go ahead and exit out of that.
The only other thing that I wanted
to point out on the touch panel itself is you'll notice
that it's actually we, we set it up where it gives you cues.
So we did not put inpatient information,
but looking at the control panel here, you notice
that it's still green
and that's telling you that new patient information still
needs to be added once you go into new patient.
So we'll select that
and then you'll notice you have the ability
to put in the patient information,
the demographics that you want.
Once you do that and then you exit the screen
and you go back to live scanning, you'll notice that
that box turns from green to gray
and that tells you that you are now in an active study.
You'll also notice that as you begin to take pictures,
those thumbnails are now going
to be represented on the right side of your control panel,
giving you easy access to get back in, look at those images.
If you needed to delete something,
you could delete it if you wanted to save it
or maybe you wanted to export it off onto USB
for educational purposes, you do have the ability to do
that as well.
I know that that was a high level overview of the system.
We certainly thank you for allowing us to share the cyte PX
with you today, giving you a little bit of a taste of just
what it has to offer you.
I would encourage you to come back to all
of the other webinar series
where we will be taking a deeper dive into workflow
efficiency, image clarity,
and then how to perform certain measurements.

I just wanted to say thank you to you
and Craig for the fantastic presentation and demo
and we do have a few questions.
So I'm gonna start with the few that have come in so far.
First question, what is the frame rate for the L 15?
Is it higher than previous sono cytes?
- That is a great question.
Yes, frame rates are higher, so I will,
I, we can, I know that we have individual names
and we certainly can get back with you
with specific numbers, but I'll speak in general terms.
I know that when I was speaking with some engineers,
we have doubled our frame rates in comparison
to previous products.
So when you're talking about specifically cardiac imaging
and then certainly any type of procedure
where you're bringing a needle into view, having
that improved temporal resolution is paramount
and we certainly have achieved that with this system.
- Great. Next question.
Can I spray down the screen and buttons
and what is safe to use for cleaning?
- I love this question. Go ahead Craig. Do you wanna answer?
- Oh yeah, I can answer it.
I mean, so this is a great question.
Yes, you can spray down the screen and buttons.
What you can use for cleaning that is on is on our website
you can navigate to the cleaning
and disinfecting area of the website
and it'll give you all of the, the cleaning, the, the
chemicals that can be used safely with the sono cyte system.
- I also wanna add just something else to that as well.
So it is a completely sealed system, so
to Craig's point it can be sprayed down.
Infection control is obviously super important.
I don't have to tell anybody the world that we're living in,
we're all living it right now.
But one thing that I love about the system as well is
that it was designed to be draped with a sterile cover
and you do not lose any type
of sensitivity of that touch panel.
So you are still able to drape it.
So if you're doing a sterile procedure,
you now can drape it, you can still manipulate your image,
be able to optimi optimize it how you normally would, even,
even with a gloved hand and with the system draped.
- Fantastic. Can the PX be taken off
the stand and used portably?
- It can. Yep.
So the stand is what allows you to have
that triple transducer.
It allows you to slave the image, you know, to,
to a certain, a different monitor.
But you do have the ability to take it off
and put one transducer connect one transducer underneath.
- Great, thank you. We have a few more.
What can the L 19 see that other linear probes cannot see?
- Oh, so much.
Okay, so this probe, I promise, like every time I scan
with it I really am so amazed
by the transducer.
So I will, I do want to encourage you to come back
and I believe it's in two weeks.
And Lisa, if you want to confirm that we are going
to have a session that
that speaks specifically over image clarity
and we are going to be highlighting the L 19
five transducer.
So just some feedback that I've gotten from
just my time in demoing this product
is you can see like when you're looking at vascular
structures, you can see individual red blood cell flow,
you can see microscopic
vessels, veins, arteries, they, I mean we're talking vessels
that are millimeters in size.
I know last week we were scanning
and we saw nerves in my fingers.
So an emergency medicine physician was talking about
how he does blocks in the finger
and he always does it blind, but partly
because he says he is never been able to see them.
And so we were scanning
and we were able to see these,
these really small nerves within my fingers.
It's made a huge, it,
it's very popular with pediatrics
where when you're scanning just the smallest of the,
of a patient being able to see vessels that look big,
but in actuality are rather quite, you know,
they're quite small.
So we are, we are seeing things frankly we just haven't ever
seen before because we are,
we're achieving those higher levels of frequencies.
- That's really incredible.
I've seen that a little bit myself. That's really cool.
Do the linear arrays now have tissue harmonics?
I I saw that at the bottom of the screen
as THI, is that correct?
- Yes, that is correct.
- Great. And there's two more questions right now.
Has there been a change in channel count?
- Craig, do you wanna answer that?
- Sure, I can answer that.
Yes, there has, we've actually doubled the number
of channels in the front end
of our systems from a a 64 channel to 128 channels.
- Great, thank you Craig. And one more question.
Can you start a new study without ending the current study?
- No, you cannot. Two.
No, But one
of the things we've done, and
and you can see it actually on the, the screen
that we're showing there on the right hand side,
before when there was no patient information,
there was a big green button where the patient,
where the patient information would go, you'd touch that
and the patient information form would, would come up
after you've either saved an image, saved a clip,
or put patient information in, you now see an orange button.
So that's a really clear indication that hey, this,
this system has an open patient study on it.
And so all you have to do is tap that end study button
that's bright orange there
and it'll say, Hey, do you wanna end the study?
You end the study and you will get back
to whatever you've chosen as your start location.
- Yeah, we really have tried to give cues.
Like I pointed out the green,
once you put inpatient information, it'll go gray.
If you haven't put inpatient information
and you start taking images,
it'll actually put like a little triangle error,
simple saying, wait a second, you're now capturing images,
but no patient information exists.
So we try to cue you along the way
so you don't end up in the, in the instance
where you've completed a full study without patient
- Information.
And we also want to main make sure that you're not adding
another patient's information
to a previous in in previous patient's study.
- Absolutely. - Right. That makes sense.
So that is all of the questions we have right now.

In 2016, the XDT was recognised with a silver IDEA award for the Sonosite SII. Prior to Sonosite, Craig was President of Carbon Design Group for seven years, where he shepherded Carbon's transformation from a design services company to one of the nation’s premier full-service product development consultancies. That shift led to significant growth in revenue, influence, and recognition by the international design community, with Carbon sweeping the IDEA Gold awards for medical products in 2009.
Audra Upton is the Director of the Clinical Applications team with more than 13 years of experience with Fujifilm Sonosite. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in ultrasound and is a registered cardiac and vascular sonographer. Audra and her team remain customer-focused and are specialised in providing top-level point-of-care ultrasound education.
