CHEST Awarded $250,000 Grant from FUJIFILM SonoSite for Expanded Educational Programs in the New CHEST Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center

Glenview, Illinois, October 27, 2014 – The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) recently announced that it is the recipient of a $250,000 educational grant from FUJIFILM SonoSite, Inc., which will support expanded educational programming and hands-on learning experiences for clinicians at the CHEST Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center. The grant, which will be paid over 5 years, will enhance CHEST training for clinicians across pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine in a variety of point-of-care diagnostic ultrasound techniques and guided procedures.

The grant will enable CHEST to provide training to clinicians through specialized courses, impacting patient care by improving participants’ clinical skills in the areas of ultrasound image acquisition and interpretation; critical care echocardiography; and focused thoracic and vascular ultrasound.

“Health education is experiencing new and growing challenges as technology changes and improves. It is vital for clinicians to receive expert, hands-on training in the latest health-care innovations,” said Michael H. Baumann, MD, MS, FCCP, CHEST President and Chair, Board of Regents. “This generous grant from FUJIFILM SonoSite will allow us to deliver innovative training to even more clinicians. High-quality, relevant, continuing medical education is a critical need and has immediate impact on patient care.”

The 15,000-square foot Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center at CHEST Global Headquarters opened in early 2014 and reflects the organization’s deep commitment to expanding opportunities for education. Health-care education is experiencing new and growing challenges, with national accrediting bodies, such as The Joint Commission, requiring hospitals to develop practice performance evaluations for clinical providers. This grant allows CHEST to help clinicians meet these challenges and address the increasing demands for more complex and specialized training.

“We are pleased to partner with the American College of Chest Physicians on this important endeavor. The Innovation, Simulation, and Training Center will provide hands-on, state-of-the-art education and bring together teams of specialists in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine for hands-on learning that will help them put the latest clinical advances into practice to improve patient care,” said Naohiro Fujitani, President & CEO, FUJIFILM SonoSite, Inc.

“Our commitment to innovative medical education continues to grow,” stated Paul Markowski, CAE, CHEST Chief Executive Officer. “Thanks to the support of Fujifilm SonoSite, we can advance patient care and continue our mission of promoting the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of chest diseases.”
