St. Mary's Mission Hospital, Langata in Nairobi Kenya.

A young female patient with mild pain in her lower right abdomen was referred to James T. Githeko, MBchB for a portable ultrasound scan. The scan revealed an un-ruptured ectopic pregnancy in her right fallopian tube. The patient was immediately referred to theater for surgery. This ultrasound scan saved her life.

Yanick Beaulieu, MD, discusses the use of portable ultrasound at the bedside in the Critical Care department and the impact it can have on patient care.
