First Generation Product Provides Unique Tracking and Guidance Technology for PICC Line Procedures

BOTHELL, WA – August 26, 2010 – SonoSite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO), the world leader and specialist in bedside and point-of-care ultrasound, announced today that it received FDA clearance for its innovative LumenVu® Catheter Guidance System. Designed to aid in the placement of peripherally inserted central catheters (PICC), the proprietary LumenVu System combines near-infrared technology with a revolutionary fiber optic stylet, which replaces a traditional guide wire, to allow visualization and real-time tracking of a catheter tip as it advances through a vein.

“Receiving FDA clearance is an important milestone in the strategic development and global commercialization of the LumenVu System and it reinforces our dedication to providing patients with improved safety and health,” said Kevin M. Goodwin, SonoSite’s President and CEO. “We envision this technology ultimately advancing beyond PICC line placements and potentially into a broader range of clinical applications. This clearance also represents a significant step towards the development of a fully integrated line placement imaging solution, which will include ultrasound visualization.”

An estimated 2.5 million PICC line placements were performed in the United States in 20081, making it one of the most rapidly growing applications performed in the hospital setting. Although a common procedure, PICC placements do pose risks and potential complications. A recent University of Pennsylvania Medical Center study found that only 70% of PICC lines are successful on the first attempt2. Catheters are often incorrectly placed and need to be re-inserted or repositioned by the clinician, which results not only in more time and greater expense, but also increases the risk of infections.

The LumenVu System has the potential to mitigate these risks by providing clinicians with the ability to visualize the catheter tip as it travels through the vessel. Healthcare professionals in hospitals or long-term care facilities will be able to track the progression of a catheter with greater confidence and quickly make navigational adjustments, if necessary.

This proprietary solution potentially offers a number of advantages in the PICC marketplace. The LumenVu System is compatible with standard catheter suppliers and is designed to allow clinicians seamless integration of the product into their current PICC line process. Additionally, the LumenVu System does not rely on a magnetic field and will not interfere with medical equipment or with devices in the patient’s body, such as a pacemaker.

Several hospitals in Europe are currently evaluating the LumenVu Catheter Guidance System in their clinical practices.

Mr. Cramer Will Remain on the Board as Chairman Emeritus Through the End of His Term in April 2011
SonoSite’s Board Adopts a Smaller and More Simplified Structure for 2011

BOTHELL, WA – August 12, 2010 – SonoSite, Inc. (Nasdaq: SONO), the world leader and specialist in bedside and point-of-care ultrasound, today announced that Kirby L. Cramer is retiring as non-executive Chairman of the Board of Directors, effective August 12, 2010. As part of the Board’s succession plan, Mr. Cramer will continue to serve as a director until SonoSite’s 2011 annual meeting of shareholders. SonoSite’s Board is naming Robert G. Hauser, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.H.R.S. to serve as non-executive Chairman of the Board. Mr. Cramer and Dr. Hauser will begin working together to create an orderly transition process over the next several weeks.

TRUSTED ADVISOR FOR TWELVE YEARS
“Since SonoSite opened for business in April 1998, Kirby Cramer has imbued SonoSite with a long-term discipline and persistent strategic opportunism that has led the company to achieve a revenue run rate of over a quarter billion dollars and an installed base of 60,000 systems from a standing start in 1999,” said Kevin M. Goodwin, SonoSite President and CEO. “We simply would not be where we are today without Kirby’s guidance and encouragement. We wish to thank and fully acknowledge his unique contributions over the past twelve years.”

In recognition of Mr. Cramer’s years of service to SonoSite, the Board of Directors conferred upon him the honorary title of Chairman Emeritus to be held during the balance of his term as a director.

YEARS OF LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE
Dr. Hauser has served as a member of SonoSite’s Board of Directors since February 2004. Dr. Hauser has been a Senior Consulting Cardiologist at the Minneapolis Heart Institute since 1992. In 2003-2004 and in 1995-1996, he served as President of the Cardiovascular Services Division of Abbott Northwestern Hospital. From 1987 to 2003, he was the Director of the Pacemaker Surveillance Clinic, Minneapolis Heart Institute. From 1988 to 1992, Dr. Hauser served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cardiac Pacemakers, Inc., a division of Eli Lilly and Company, prior to its merger with Guidant, Inc. Dr. Hauser is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a Founder, Past-President and Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Cincinnati and graduated with honors from the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati in 1968.

Mr. Goodwin continued, “Dr. Hauser is a great visionary who offers SonoSite a unique set of skills as we move forward into healthcare reform and as the global adoption of our visualization tools continues around the world.”

STRUCTURE CHANGES FOR 2011
With the retirement of Mr. Cramer, following the annual shareholders meeting in April 2011, the Board will have adopted a reduced structure and simplified committee format that will move the company from nine to seven independent members. Additionally, steps have already been taken to reduce the number of committees from five to three (Audit, Compensation, and Nominating and Corporate Governance). The structure is consistent with Nasdaq standards and SEC requirements.

“The cumulative effect of these changes will result in a more streamlined and cost effective structure that will continue to support SonoSite’s corporate governance and strategic oversight responsibilities,” said Carmen Diersen, the company’s Chair of its Corporate Governance Committee.

UC Irvine Leadership Takes Medical Education to the Next Level by Integrating an Innovative Ultrasound Program and Curriculum

BOTHELL, WA – August 11, 2010 – SonoSite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO), the world leader and specialist in bedside and point-of-care ultrasound, and the University of California, Irvine, announced today that the company and institution have signed an agreement to integrate ultrasound visualization into UC Irvine’s four-year medical school curriculum.

Under the terms of this agreement, SonoSite will act as an exclusive ultrasound partner. The collaborative efforts of both UC Irvine and SonoSite will provide medical students with an active and dynamic learning experience that will transform traditional teaching methods used during medical school training. SonoSite’s ultrasound systems will enable students to view anatomical structures in real-time and better understand physiological processes. This innovative ultrasound curriculum is setting the standard for other leading medical institutions and providing UC Irvine’s students with the skill set and tools to improve medicine.

“Ultrasound visualization tools are transforming medicine and we are excited to partner with SonoSite and pursue the mission of transforming physical diagnosis,” said Ralph V. Clayman, MD, Dean of the UC Irvine School of Medicine. “It is imperative that we embrace the evolving digital age and provide students with the ability to become well versed in the latest visualization technology, which will ultimately enable them to better diagnose patients. With full institutional support across core faculty and administration, our relationship with SonoSite clearly demonstrates our commitment to providing our students with the tools they need to enhance their learning experience and better prepare them for 21st century medicine.”

“With the power of ultrasound based visual medicine, students will have a learning experience that was unimaginable until now,” said Kevin M. Goodwin, SonoSite President and CEO. “UC Irvine is a very progressive institution and we are excited to participate in this innovative curriculum for their medical school students. UC Irvine and SonoSite have a shared vision to improve medical education and ultimately make an impact on healthcare delivery.”

“By integrating ultrasound into our curriculum, we are giving students the tools they need to practice modern medicine,” said J. Christian Fox, MD, UC Irvine, Director of Instructional Ultrasound “This curriculum is teaching for the future. Sitting in a classroom is passive learning. Reading from a textbook is passive. When you provide students with the opportunity to actually see the anatomy, that’s how they will really learn. Students will be able to directly visualize almost any organ, blood vessel, bone, muscle, or tissue in the body. By the end of their four-year medical training, these students’ ability to diagnose disease will be unsurpassed by any conventional means of practicing medicine.”

“In advance of their residency, this visual learning experience will provide medical students with the knowledge and training to diagnose a myriad of pathologies, increase their proficiency and be armed with the confidence of ultrasound visualization,” said Diku Mandavia, MD, SonoSite’s Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer. “Medical students will be able to understand the human body on a whole new level and appreciate the anatomy and physiology, which will be an important framework for their future clinical decisions.”

BOTHELL, WA – July 26, 2010 – SonoSite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO), the world leader and specialist in hand-carried ultrasound for the point-of-care, today reported financial results for the second quarter and first half ended June 30, 2010.

REVENUE
Revenue increased 18% in the second quarter to $61.5 million and 13% for the first half of 2010 to $117.5 million, as compared to the prior year comparable periods. These comparisons included revenue of $3.8 million for the quarter and $7.0 million for the first half of 2010 from CardioDynamics (CDIC), which was acquired in the third quarter of 2009.

SECOND QUARTER HIGHLIGHTS:

Revenue growth was led by SonoSite’s US hospital channel, which was up 20%.

Revenue from the international business was impacted by a slowdown in Europe. The Company had steady performances in several other international markets and was up 2%. The International business sector profitability grew 7-8 times the “top line” growth rate, despite the slower revenue.

Pricing discipline and an improved product mix led to a 1.4 percentage point increase in gross margins to 72% for the quarter.

The Company had strong performances across all four vertical clinical markets.

EBIT and EBITDAS
Second Quarter

COMMENTARY
“The quarter was an excellent step forward for SonoSite as we resumed strong revenue growth, and managed pricing and operating expenses effectively,” said Kevin M. Goodwin, SonoSite President and CEO. “We also were able to close the VSI acquisition by quarter end. We finished with strong momentum, and a stable back log. We will continue to focus on operating expense improvement as the year goes on, alongside driving a larger revenue base with VSI.”

Mr. Goodwin continued, “We expect to operate the VSI subsidiary in Toronto, Canada and will initiate plans to converge our technologies beginning later this year, as well as initiatives to further scale the pre-clinical business. We anticipate that VSI will contribute approximately $17 million of revenues in the second half with a positive operating contribution, excluding amortization and stock compensation. We will also initiate actions on operating synergies during the second half.”

2010 FINANCIAL OUTLOOK
The company updated guidance for the expected impact of the VSI acquisition:

Core business revenue growth of 10 – 12%. With the inclusion of $17.0 million of estimated revenue from VSI, overall revenue growth is projected at 18-19%;

increased gross margins to a range of 70-71%, up from previous guidance of 70%;

reaffirmed Core business EBIT margins of 11 – 13%. With $7.0 million of transaction costs, amortization and stock compensation expenses from the VSI acquisition, we project EBIT margins of 8-9% on higher revenue;

reaffirmed Core business EBITDAS margin of 16 – 18%. Expect a positive contribution from VSI, and overall EBITDAS margins of 15-17% and,

full-year effective tax rate of 40% compared to previous guidance of 30%. The tax rate increase is due to non-deductible transaction expenses from the VSI acquisition.

Non-GAAP Measures
This release includes discussions of EBIT, EBITDAS and EPS excluding acquisition related charges; these are non-GAAP financial measures. SonoSite believes these measures are a useful complement to results provided in accordance with GAAP. “EBITDAS” refers to operating income (EBIT) before depreciation, amortization and stock-based compensation.

Major Advancement for Regional Nerve Blocks and Other Injection Based Procedures

Highly Advanced Algorithms Were Developed Over Two Years and Aimed at Solving the Disappearing Needle Phenomenon in Anesthesia

BOTHELL, WA – July 13, 2010 – SonoSite, Inc. (Nasdaq:SONO), the world leader and specialist in bedside and point-of-care ultrasound, today introduced Enhanced Needle Visualization, a significant development in ultrasound imaging that enables improved needle tracking with increased confidence during deep needle procedures. Enhanced Needle Visualization is a proprietary imaging technology that intensifies the brightness of the needle, making it clearly visible during a steep angle approach to a deep target, conditions under which the needle has previously been difficult to image. Enhanced Needle Visualization is now available as a software upgrade for SonoSite’s M-Turbo® and S Series™ ultrasound product lines.

SonoSite’s Enhanced Needle Visualization technology is the first fully-integrated solution to resolve the “lost needle phenomenon,”1 which has been an accepted constraint for needle-guidance since the creation of ultrasound imaging. Developed over the last two years, SonoSite’s engineers collaborated with physicians worldwide and challenged the conventional principles of ultrasound system design to break new grounds for needle visibility. As a result, the revolutionary Enhanced Needle Visualization technology was introduced for SonoSite ultrasound systems.

1 Miller, Gabriel. “Study Ranks Needle Visibility Under Ultrasound.” Pain Medicine News. Mar. 2010. Web. www.painmedicinenews.com.

“Enhanced Needle Visualization is a unique, proprietary technology that cannot be found in any other ultrasound product, including large cart-based systems,” said Jim Gilmore, SonoSite’s Senior Vice President of Product Innovation and Delivery. “This technology adaptively enhances the ultrasound visualization of needles at steep angles without compromising tissue image quality.”

Enhanced Needle Visualization is fully-integrated into the architecture of SonoSite’s systems and can be operated with a simple on/off button, enabling physicians to potentially decrease procedure time and considerably reduce costs per procedure.

“With clear needle visibility at deep and steep angles, SonoSite’s Enhanced Needle Visualization allows me to more confidently perform a nerve block and provide better medicine to my patients,” said David Auyong, MD, Staff Anesthesiologist, Seattle, Washington. “This streamlined technology can also be activated at the touch of a button, which allows me to operate more efficiently and ultimately save money. When I am performing a nerve block, I want to be able to turn on the ultrasound system, place the transducer and insert the needle. With Enhanced Needle Visualization, I will not need to spend an extra five to ten minutes setting up additional equipment or finding echogenic needles, which streamlines my practice.”

“SonoSite’s Enhanced Needle Visualization technology is extremely impressive,” said Mimi Lee, MD, Anesthesiology Consultants of Marin, located in California. “This is going to eliminate any difficulties I have with accurately visualizing the shaft of the needle and it will decrease the time it takes to perform a steep needle procedure. This is also an excellent teaching tool for residents who are relatively unfamiliar with ultrasound and the different techniques; I think they will pick up the technology immediately.”

“We are elated by the response so far by physician users in the marketplace for this breakthrough in point-of-care visualization,” said Kevin M. Goodwin, SonoSite’s President and CEO. “This is a major advancement in needle guidance for medicine. We have received an overwhelmingly positive response from physicians around the world who have had the opportunity to assess Enhanced Needle Visualization. Physicians have commented that this technology will become the new industry standard for needle visualization. Enhanced Needle Visualization has already helped us to win a number of orders in the competitive market environment and we are anticipating strong product demand.”

Enhanced Needle Visualization supports SonoSite’s continuous efforts to provide physicians with innovative solutions to improve patient safety. This breakthrough technology is currently offered on SonoSite’s HFL50 and HFL38 transducers for peripheral nerve block applications. SonoSite expects to expand applications for Enhanced Needle Visualization technology to a broad range of point-of-care specialties, including breast surgeons, musculoskeletal specialists, endocrinologists, interventional radiologists and emergency medicine physicians. SonoSite has applied for patent protection for this significant advance in needle visualization technology.

BOTHELL, WA – June 30, 2010 – SonoSite, Inc. (NASDAQ: SONO), the world leader and specialist in bedside and point-of-care ultrasound, today announced that on June 30, 2010, it completed its acquisition of privately held VisualSonics, a Toronto-based company focused on ultra high-frequency micro-ultrasound technology, for $67.9 million net of cash and debt.

“This acquisition positions SonoSite for long-term growth in the pre-clinical and clinical point-of-care markets and enables the creation of potential breakthrough imaging products for both market spaces,” said Kevin M. Goodwin, SonoSite President and CEO. “With unmatched ultra high-frequency technology, which operates at five times the center frequency of a conventional ultrasound, VisualSonics’ micro-imaging technology has the potential to revolutionize clinical medicine and continue to transform pre-clinical research.”

“We are pleased to finalize this agreement with SonoSite,” said Anil Amlani, VisualSonics’ President and CEO. “SonoSite and VisualSonics share a passion for creating innovative products and driving new market opportunities.”

Under the terms of the agreement, VisualSonics will become a wholly-owned subsidiary of SonoSite, Inc. Shareholders of VisualSonics approved the acquisition.

About VisualSonics
VisualSonics is the technology leader in real-time ultra high-frequency micro-ultrasound that presently serves the rapidly growing pre-clinical research market. Founded in 1999 by Stuart Foster, Ph.D., at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center, VisualSonics’ micro-ultrasound technology uses five times the center frequency range currently used in conventional ultrasound systems (40MHz versus 8MHz) and enables the visualization of superficial anatomy on small living animals with microscopic detail, discerning features as small as 40 microns (versus conventional ultrasound, which visualize 200 microns). VisualSonics’ technology has the potential to pave the way for a new era of extreme high resolution ultrasound imaging of superficial anatomy in clinical medicine.

About SonoSite, Inc.
SonoSite, Inc. (www.sonosite.com) is the innovator and world leader in hand-carried ultrasound and industry leader in impedance cardiography equipment.
