The course is designed to familiarize the frontline intensivist with thoracic and vascular ultrasonography for diagnosis and management of the critically ill patient. The course is a part of the ACCP certificate of completion program. It is also designed to meet the needs of program directors in reference to the recent American Board of Internal Medicine guidelines requiring that fellowship training include ultrasound guidance of pleural and vascular access. The course focuses on training using human models and vascular ultrasound task trainers, as well as comprehensive training in image interpretation.

Target Audience:  Trauma Surgeons, Critical Care Physicians, Intensivists, Internal Medicine and Family Practice Physicians who will be performing and interpreting ultrasound examinations.

Advanced Health Education Center’s Point of Care: Advanced ultrasound course is a two day advanced training course that provides participants the fundamental knowledge and skill required to perform advanced ultrasound evaluation of the trauma patient.  The course is conducted with focused didactic lectures followed by supervised hands on scan lab with live models. The course topics for the two day basic course include the application of bedside ultrasound from advanced cardiac evaluation and pulmonary applications, to ultrasound guided treatments and interventions.  Emphasis is placed on acquisitions of the knowledge and scanning skills needed for vascular access techniques, thoracic ultrasound evaluation (interstitial pathology, pneumothorax, pleural effusions and thorocentesis), evaluation of DVT’s and integration of point-of-care echocardiography into symptom based evaluation of the patient.

Advanced Health Education Center’s Point of Care: Introduction ultrasound course is a three day basic training and course that provides participants the fundamental knowledge and skill required to perform ultrasound evaluation of the trauma patient.  The course is conducted with focused didactic lectures followed by supervised hands on scan lab with live models. The course topics for the three day basic course include the fundamental ultrasound physics/knobology required to acquire and optimize an ultrasound image, the FAST Exam, ultrasound evaluation of the abdomen, cardiac imaging, 1st trimester pregnancy with endovaginal imaging and ample normal vs. abnormal case studies.

The course can be customized to the client’s needs based on the skill level of the participants. This course utilizes hands-on training with simulation phantoms, as well as live models. Registration fees will be determined by anticipated participants and location of training.

Target Audience:  Physicians (Sports Medicine, Rheumatology, PM&R, Orthopedic, Radiology) seeking entry level information in musculoskeletal ultrasound, scanning and interpretation.  Sonographers or health professionals including sports trainers learning musculoskeletal ultrasound.

Advanced Health Education Center’s Musculoskeletal Ultrasound on-site training is a two day basic training course which can be designed to meet the specific needs of the participant.  The course provides participates the fundamental knowledge and skill required to perform musculoskeletal ultrasound procedures.  The course is conducted with focused didactic lectures followed by supervised hands on scan lab with live models. The course topics include upper extremity including the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, lower extremity including the knee, ankle and foot, soft tissue and muscle including interventions. The course can be customized to the client’s needs based on the skill level of the participants.

Advanced Health Education Center’s Specialty Procedures in Ultrasound for Physicians on-site training is a one day advanced applications ultrasound training course.  The course provides participates a brief overview of the fundamental knowledge and skill required to perform ultrasound procedures.  The course is conducted with focused didactic lectures followed by supervised hands on scan lab with live models. The course topics include venous orientation and pathology to demonstrate DVT, cardiac pathology including ventricular enlargement, tamponade, pericardial effusion, and basic cardiac function.  Ultrasound guided procedures including thoracentesis, pericardiocentesis and central line placement.

Advanced Health Education Center’s Echocardiography Interpretation Case Review is a two day training course that provides participants the fundamental knowledge and skill required to interpret and review echocardiography results.  The course is conducted with focused didactic lectures and case review.  The course topics for the two day course include the interpretation of the data emphasizing the basic understanding of what those numbers mean.  Obvious hemodynamic abnormalities as well as subtle findings will be discussed in a logical and concise program designed for the “real world” echo lab.
